How To Teach Your Parrot To Stop Biting
Having a pet parrot is no different than any other animals when it comes to problems. In fact, one of the main problems that many parrot owners occur is biting. If you have a pet parrot, or you’re considering one, here are a few
things that you can do to ensure that your parrot doesn’t bit those that are around.
Give attention: A parrot is a very smart creature, and if you don’t give it the attention that it deserves, you’re going to find that one may feel isolated. Because of this, you may find that the parrot will get agitated or annoyed. Just like a human, this may cause the parrot to vent it’s frustration by biting. Give it attention by holding or even talking to it at least every hour when you’re home. If you can, try to put the bird in the room where you usually hang out.
Blow air: If your parrot continues to bite, blow air into the parrot’s face. This is a great way to discourage the parrot from biting. Tell everyone in the household to continue to do this each and every time it happens. After each blow to the face, be sure to say, “no!” in a stern, loud voice.
Don’t pull away: When a parrot bites, our natural instincts will be to pull away. By doing this, you’re going to show that you hold a weakness. Either come toward the parrot with a closed fist, or if you must, allow the parrot to bite you, but make sure that you test the technique above by blowing air into it’s face.
