Parrots Are a Great Pet For The Elderly

Parrots make a wonderful pet for the elderly. They make great companions. The best part is you do not have to take them out for a walk. There are a lot of reasons that make the parrot a good pet.

First, parrots are very social birds, they who love to interact with their owner. They are known to be very smart pets. Parrots are always willing to perform and talk to their owner keeping them from feeling alone. The reason the elderly enjoy the antics of parrots so much is because their children are grown up and parrots often act like young children. Therefore, they no longer have an empty nest. The nest is taken over by the parrot, who can become very animated.

If trained the right way, a parrot can learn to do things to assist the elderly when needed. They can turn a light switch on and off if you are having trouble doing it. If trained to, they can retrieve something from the other side of the room and bring it to you. They can be taught to talk. Parrots have been known to call for help by yelling help and phrases such as fell over.

Of course, they are no substitute for having a loved one check in on you. They do, however, bring a great deal of love and companionship when your loved ones can’t be around. Parrots love to feel wanted and thrive on attention. They will love you as much as you love them.
