Get the right size cage for your parrot

With many people considering the adoption of parrots, it is important to have the right information readily available for these future pet owners. There are several different things to take into consideration when buying a parrot and it is important to correctly take care of them in order to keep them happy and healthy for the duration of their lives. Since parrots can often outlive their owners, it is extremely important to have the right cage for them to call home. This cage will be where the bird spends much of its free time, which means that it needs to be of the proper dimensions to keep it from feeling crowded and uncomfortable.

When considering which cage to buy for a parrot, it is important to take into account the bird’s size. The cage must be small enough to fit into your home but also large enough to accommodate the needs of the pet. There has to be plenty of room for food and water. Since the parrot also gets bored just like humans, there is a need for it to have plenty of toys to play with. There should also be several perches placed in the cage. It is best to get a cage that allows all of this to fit and still gives the parrot plenty of space to move around and climb on its perch. If there isn’t enough room in the cage, the parrot could suffer psychological trauma, which might cause it to start “plucking.” Plucking is when a parrot becomes depressed and begins to pull its own feathers out. Once this occurs, it can be hard to break and in some cases becomes fatal.

Always make sure that your bird’s cage is roomy and feels like home to your parrot.

How To Care For Pet Parrots

Knowing how to care for pet parrots is important in maintaining a happy and healthy bird. Start by looking at the parrot’s sleeping area or cage. Make sure it gives the parrot enough space to comfortably move around in. Clean the cage at least one a week including the bird’s toys and food dishes. Take time during each cleaning to change papers in the bottom of the cage to accommodate waste.

Grooming is a part of any care regime for parrots. They like to bath regularly and will use their water dish if nothing else is available. Use a light misting water bottle to replicate this experience. This will help to keep the water dish clean. Nail clippings can be tricky so try to include them as part of regular checkups with an avian veterinarian.

Not all bird foods are created the same. Make sure to purchase the appropriately labeled seed selection for the particular parrot. For example, never buy parakeet seed for any type of parrot. Most pet stores make it easy to choose the correct type of food. Look at including some fresh vegetables and fruit that are safe for the particular parrot. Treats are also available for occasional use in the bird’s diet.

Take time everyday with parrots to encourage a bond. If you cannot be there, consider leaving on a radio until your return. Birds enjoy the music and view it as a calming source. Toys also help to stimulate as well as entertain the parrot.

Type of Parrots

Parrots are the most beautiful and amazing birds. That is why everyone flocks to the bird section when they visit their local pet stores. Parrots can captivate us for hours.

There are dozens of different types of parrots. Cockatiels are one of the most common types of parrots. They are normally grey in color and have some of the most beautiful markings. Boys tend to have a bright facial coloring while the female’s facial color is softer and less bright. It has been reported that cockatiels can live as long as 25 years, while most live around 18 years. This makes them great companions for many different groups of people.

Cockatiels are one of the easiest birds to train. They are eager to please and pick up sounds and small phrases easily. Bird enthusiasts say that males can be easier to train but this point is often argued both ways. There are many tips for first time bird owners that will help you to quickly train your parrot. They will also pick up common sounds and phrases in your house, so don’t be surprised when you hear some cute and funny sounds coming from your cockatiel.

Cockatiels are usually happier in pairs, though it’s not unheard of to have just one cockatiel. The greatest risk to having a pair of cockatiels is that when one dies, the other usually follows fairly quickly. They will grieve for each other and it is sometimes difficult to prevent grieving.

Birds make some of the best companion animals. They bring so many smiles and laughs to your home. Cockatiels are just one type of parrots. Raising birds is usually a lifelong passion. There are so many rewards to raising and training any type of parrot and chances are you will be hooked for life.

Macaw parrots can range in different sizes, from small to large. Macaws are normally found in the rainforest however, some macaws are kept as pet birds. The particular bird are extremely smart, when kept for a pet they often pick up ‘phrases’ and repeat them such as hello or goodbye.

Many species of birds will eat small rodents, as well as worms and larva. Macaw parrots have a diet of fruits, seeds, and nuts, certain leaves and stems, which all depends on the season and weather. In the Amazon, many of these parrots will consume clay from the riverbanks as well.

Macaws are beautiful birds. Most macaw parrots have a dark colored beak (normally dark brown or black), with beautiful facial markings. Macaw’s facial markings are similar to a human fingerprint; each facial print (pattern) is unique. No two birds have similar markings; this is one of the many factors that make the macaw such an interesting bird.

Sadly, many types of macaws are becoming an endangered species. The Spixs Macaw is now completely extinct in the wild. Many of these beautiful birds fall victim to ‘bird trappers’, whom illegally trade and sell these parrots. The population of the macaw has greatly, decreased over the years therefore it is illegal to trap and sell these birds. In order for these birds to be captured and or shipped, one must gain a special permit and abide all rules and regulations associated. These birds are truly unique to say the absolute least.

Tips to get your parrot to talk

So many more people are beginning to adopt parrots than they did just a few years ago. Often times, a large number of these people don’t understand the care and patience which must be allowed their pets in order for them to be happy and healthy for many years to come. While owning a parrot can be a lot of hard work, it is also very rewarding as you will have a trusting companion for life. One of the hardest things to do is to get your parrot to begin speaking. While it is tough at first, it can be done with a small amount of patience and devotion to your pet.

One of the best ways to get your parrot to speak is to start slow with just a word or two. When parrots are young, it is very difficult to get them to mimic. Once they reach the age of 2 and onward, it is almost impossible to get them to stop talking. Start slow and take several weeks to teach your bird a small word or two until you see him begin to mouth it. Eventually, he will start making noise and over the course of a few weeks, he’ll begin to expertly say the word over and over. Once he has that word down, start with something a little harder and repeat the process until he begins adding words to his permanent vocabulary. Also, let your parrot perch on your shoulder and watch television with you. He will begin to mimic what he sees on TV and this will help the process greatly.

Just remember to give your bird plenty of time and don’t give up on him. Keep trying and you will be having conversations with your parrot in no time.

How To Teach Your Parrot To Stop Biting

Having a pet parrot is no different than any other animals when it comes to problems. In fact, one of the main problems that many parrot owners occur is biting. If you have a pet parrot, or you’re considering one, here are a few things that you can do to ensure that your parrot doesn’t bit those that are around.

Give attention: A parrot is a very smart creature, and if you don’t give it the attention that it deserves, you’re going to find that one may feel isolated. Because of this, you may find that the parrot will get agitated or annoyed. Just like a human, this may cause the parrot to vent it’s frustration by biting. Give it attention by holding or even talking to it at least every hour when you’re home. If you can, try to put the bird in the room where you usually hang out.

Blow air: If your parrot continues to bite, blow air into the parrot’s face. This is a great way to discourage the parrot from biting. Tell everyone in the household to continue to do this each and every time it happens. After each blow to the face, be sure to say, “no!” in a stern, loud voice.

Don’t pull away: When a parrot bites, our natural instincts will be to pull away. By doing this, you’re going to show that you hold a weakness. Either come toward the parrot with a closed fist, or if you must, allow the parrot to bite you, but make sure that you test the technique above by blowing air into it’s face.

Tips for having a parrot for a pet

If you are one of the many people out there who have thought about owning a pet parrot, there are some things that you might want to understand before making the commitment. Owning a parrot is similar to having a small child 24 hours a day for the rest of the animal’s life. Having a lifespan of around 70 years, many parrots end up outliving their owners, so it is also important to know where your parrot will end up when you are gone. While these are some pretty serious things to take into account, it should not discourage someone from making the choice to adopt one of the most entertaining pets that money can buy.

Parrots require a lot of attention. They need human interaction for at least 5 or 6 hours out of each day. By spending time with them, you are essentially letting them bond with you. In addition to this attention, they also require exercise time outside of their cages in order to stay happy and healthy. Your parrot will need a wide range of toys to keep him busy while in his cage and he also needs to be fed appropriately.

If you want to teach your parrot to speak, it takes time and patience. It typically takes a parrot about 3 or 4 weeks of consistent training to learn each word or phrase. Taking the time to teach them can be very rewarding as they are capable of learning up to a thousand or so words and can actually use what they have learned to communicate on a very basic level.

While owning a parrot is a lot of hard work, it is extremely rewarding in the end. With a lot of patience and devotion to your pet, a long-lasting relationship of love and trust will be achieved.

You also have to consider the size of the toys, especially if the parrots are smaller. You have to buy something that they will be safe around, even when you are not home watching, so that they will not choke on something with small parts.

When purchasing the right parrot toys, you have to consider all aspects of how the toys were made, what materials were used in their production, and all aspects of the production, from the factory they were made in, to the size of the toys you are purchasing. You have to make sure that you purchase the toys that are going to be safe, and at the same time are going to be the toys that your parrots are going to love playing with. So, when you are purchasing your new toys for your pet parrots, you have to consider the safest toys, and that only the right materials were used in the production of the toys.

About the African grey parrot

The African Grey Parrot comes in two subspecies. The calmer and more mild mannered of the two is the Timneh. This variety is smaller than the Congo, darker and does not have red tail feathers. The Congo is the most popular in pet stores because of its bright face and attractive tail.

They are large birds and require a lot of time and devotion. They have the mental comprehension of a two or three year old human child. This being said, getting them to talk is easier than with most parrots. You can teach them a new word every three to four weeks with repetition. Their vocabulary can be quite extensive, from several hundred to a thousand words.

Their intelligence goes beyond memorization. They are logical enough to hold short conversations once they figure out what phrases are correct during certain social interactions. It really is a talking bird in the truest sense of the word.

They have been known to live around 60 years. They are a lifetime commitment and require a lot of patience. They can become anxious and violent if they are left alone and unstimulated for a prolonged period of time. When anxious, they will hurt themselves by plucking. Plucking is the term for when a bird pulls out its own feathers, which can eventually lead to death if the behavior is not corrected. This is especially true for the timid Timneh. They require visits to specialized avian veterinarians for checkups and medical care, just like any other animal would.

About Sun Conures

The Sun parakeet or sun conure is a type of parrot. It is a medium sized bird and it lives in north eastern South America. It is a gold and orange colored bird with parts of green. Both males and females are identical in color. The species is endangered. It is threatened by lose of habitat, and it the birds being trapped for the pet trade.

As pets the birds are described as being curios and playful. Sun parakeets like to climb and hang from things. They live around 25 to 30 years. People who own parrots as pets may decide to have the birds wings clipped. This makes it so the bird can’t fly away. It also reduces the risk of the bird flying into things and getting hurt. Sun parakeets may cost from 200$ to 600$. Sun parakeets like other parrots, screech and can be noisy. These birds have a very loud squawk for being a small bird. In the wild the birds live in groups of up to 30. The birds eat fruits, flowers, berries and nuts.

Sun parakeets can be trained to mimic human words. What the bird mimics is based of the words they hear people say. When one thinks of parrots: the mimicking words of the birds is often thought of. It is important to note that bird can not actually talk. They mimic human sounds, and to us it sounds like words.

Parrots can be fun and loving pets. They can give there owners a lot of attention and affection for many years, as parrots often have long life spans.
